Professional and Personal Interests

I have been an epidemiologist at the Louisiana Office of Public Health (HIV/AIDS) and more recently for the City of Houston, in foodborne disease investigations. I have published in the areas of sexual health and/or global health, particularly in Latin American populations, and I currently serve on the Board of Associate Editors for the American Journal of Health Education. My personal interests include hiking, camping, spending time with my family and reading.

  • Assessing attitudes towards global collaboration and cultural competency in HIV/STD workshops for Mexican nurses. 
  • Prevalence and intensity of geohelminth infections in school children from the Izabal region, Guatemala.
  • Evaluation of the implementation of a Global Health course in a university setting.
  • Designing and assessing cultural competency workshops for health professionals dealing with Diabetes patients. 
  • Baseline cholesterol screening information from NE Texas migrant workers program.
  • Psychosocial developmental factors relating to obesity among northeast Texas adolescents.
