Welcome

Welcome to the UT Tyler SACS website. This website has been developed to help faculty and staff understand the process set forth by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and School. We hope the website will also provide important information and support as UT Tyler launches its reaffirmation process

A Message from President Mabry

The University of Texas at Tyler is scheduled to be reviewed in 2010 for re-affirmation of its accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Reaffirmation is an opportunity to reflect on our mission, evaluate our progress, and continually improve the way we go about achieving the goals we have set for ourselves and our students.

Since our last SACS visit in 2000, SACS has realigned the criteria for accreditation, placing greater emphasis on institutional enhancement and improvement. More importantly, SACS requires us to document our improvement processes with evidence showing that we not only have outcomes assessment techniques built into our everyday educational activities but that we use the data to improve our educational processes. SACS expects us to document that we have improvement feedback loops in place--we must prove that we Close the Loop.

In addition, each institution is required to prepare a Quality Enhancement Plan that targets a specific area of learning. You will have an opportunity to help select the subject or objective of that plan.

This SACS web site will be the primary means of communicating with the University community, SACS, and external constituencies about our reaffirmation project. Questions and comments about reaffirmation or the website should be directed to Donna Dickerson, our SACS Institutional Liaison.

Rod Mabry, President
