Process: Overview

Timeline   SACS Deadlines   Flowchart    Reports

The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) is the recognized regional accrediting body for degree-granting institutions of higher education in eleven Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and Latin America.

Peer review is the primary method used by colleges and universities to ensure that students are getting the best education possible.

The SACS reaffirmation process is distinguished by its emphasis on improving learning by assessment of what happens in the classroom and outside the classroom, and how administrative and service units at the university serve the goals of continuous quality improvement of the educational mission.

To demonstrate continuous quality improvement and to affirm that the institution operates effectively for all its constituents, SACS requires the preparation and submission of two major documents: 1) Compliance Certification and 2) Quality Enhancement Plan.
