Sharon Brown is director of advancement services for The University of Texas at Tyler, where she maintains all primary operations for the Endowment Compliance Program.
Sharon had 15 years of higher education experience before joining UT Tyler in 2010. She worked for Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and Texas A&M University, College Station. While at TAMU she worked for the Space Research Center under the direction of former NASA Langley Director Oran Nicks, May's Business School Finance Department and the dean of liberal arts, as an administrative coordinator.
During her tenure at Texas A&M she functioned in a variety of areas, including coordinating annual business meetings for Society of Texas A&M Real Estate Professionals, the Liberal Arts Council, Liberal Arts Staff Development Council, Space Allocation Committee, the Liberal Arts Study Abroad Scholarship Committee and International Studies Programs.
She coordinated the Annual Liberal Arts College Graduate Workshop training sessions for faculty and staff, as well as worked with deans and development officers on special donor related events. She completed the Texas A&M Emerging Supervisors Program in 2001.
Sharon is also a certified paralegal, completing her certification in 1990. She worked as lead paralegal for Automotive Research Consultants for nine years in College Station. While living in the Bryan-College Station area she volunteered with the Brazos Valley Youth Soccer Club, American Cancer Society and Girl Scout Bluebonnet Council. She served on the BISD Superintendents' Community Advisory Council and as PTA president.
Sharon graduated from John Tyler High School and attended Tyler Junior College. She and her husband returned to Tyler because most of her immediate family lives in the area. Sharon currently is a member of Women in Tyler and serves as co-chair.
