Debbie Wood, Director of Special Events

Debbie Wood is Director of Special Events at The University of Texas at Tyler. She has 22 years experience in special events and provides a centralized standard of excellence, quality, and protocol to the offices of the President, University Advancement, and Provost.
In this position, Debbie manages a wide variety of events such as groundbreaking ceremonies, dedications, President's Executive Luncheons, UT Tyler's 40th Anniversary, and fundraising events such as the 2012 Patriot Classic that raised more than $177,000. She also assists the UT Tyler Cowan Center Distinguished Lecture Series with dinners and receptions.
Prior to coming to UT Tyler, she was the Main Street/Economic Development Manager for the City of Gilmer where she initiated and directed a highly successful Texas Main Street Reinvestment program for the city with funds totaling over $4.25 million. She was the Special Events Coordinator for Ambassador University from 1990 – 1997.
Debbie received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ambassador University and served as an Instructor in Family and Consumer Sciences. In 2002 she received her Economic Development Institute (EDI) Certificate of Completion. Currently she is working on her MBA at UT Tyler.
She is a member of ISES International Special Events Society—Dallas Chapter, Association of Fundraising Professionals—East Texas Chapter, Academic Event Professional, AEP 2014, Tyler Executive Women's Network, Inc., Northeast Texas Economic Development Roundtable, and Leadership Tyler Class 20.
