Academic Advising Center
Freshman Advising - Carlos Alvarez
I was born in Quito, Ecuador, and in 2005 I came to The University of Texas at Tyler. I graduated in August 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. I am a fervent believer in higher education especially at UT Tyler, which is the reason I moved back after completing a Master's Degree from The University of New Mexico in Latin American and US Hispanic Literature.
I have over four years of experience working in Higher Education, and a solid commitment to aid students in achieving their educational goals. Due to my dedication for student's success, I am very excited to be part of the Academic Advisement Center. I currently advise our first time freshmen students who are interested in pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Computer Information System, Computer Science, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
When I am not killing zombies on Black Ops, I am up at the crack of dawn doing Crossfit. Some fun facts about me include: I am a fitness fanatic. I bungee-jumped off a bridge in Guápulo, Ecuador, speak three languages and published a short story.
UT Tyler has helped shape the person I am now. As a student and an employee I have enjoyed working for its growth and change. I hope you will enjoy UT Tyler as much as I have; I am sure it will set you on a path to success!!
