Academic Advising Center
Freshman Advising - Carlos Alvarez
I was born in Quito, Ecuador, and in 2005 I came to The University of Texas at Tyler. I graduated in August 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. I am a fervent believer in higher education especially at UT Tyler, which is the reason I moved back after completing a Master’s Degree from The University of New Mexico in Latin American and US Hispanic Literature.
I have over four years of experience working in Higher Education, and a solid commitment to aid students in achieving their educational goals. Due to my dedication for student’s success, I am very excited to join the Academic Advisement Center. I currently advise our first time freshmen students who are interested in pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Computer Information System, Computer Science, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, and GATE students. I also help students who are undecided in choosing a major.
When I am not killing zombies on Black Ops, I have a ball creating images in Adobe CS5. Some fun facts about me include I bungee-jumped off a bridge in Guápulo, Ecuador, speak three languages and published a short story.
UT Tyler has helped shape the person I am now. As a student and an employee I have enjoyed working for its growth and change. I hope you will enjoy UT Tyler as much as I have; I am sure it will set you on a path to success!!
