UT Tyler Baseball Assistants Phelps, Davis Earn Summer Coaching Honors

Stan Phelps and Wes Davis, assistant coaches for The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team, were named the coaches of the year in their respective minor leagues following the completion of the 2008 season.

Phelps, who served as head coach of the East Texas Pump Jacks, earned the honor in the Texas Collegiate League, while Davis picked-up the nod in the Coastal Plain League for his work as head coach with the Florence RedWolves. More>>>

In 2007, The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team came within one game of winning the American Southwest Conference championship and advancing to their first-ever NCAA tournament. All of this was accomplished in the Patriots’ first year of post-season eligibility and with a team comprised mainly of freshmen and sophomores.

Not only was last year’s squad composed of mostly underclassmen, due to UT Tyler spending four years as provisional member of the NCAA, no members of the 2007 team had any post-season experience. More>>>

The University of Texas at Tyler athletics department has announced the 2008 schedules for men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, and cross country.

The cross country teams are the first to get started, running in the Baylor Bear Invitational on Aug. 29. The men’s cross country team returns the core of a 2007 team that has won three straight American Southwest Conference championships and finished third at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Meet.
