Deike's Contract Not Renewed by University

The University of Texas at Tyler has chosen not to renew the contract of head women's basketball coach and associate athletic director Terri Deike.

"We thank Coach Deike for her dedication and service to UT Tyler, the athletics department, and the women's basketball program," said UT Tyler Athletic Director James Vilade. "Coach Deike played a major role in helping UT Tyler move toward NCAA membership and she was involved in many other facets of the athletics department." More>>>

Softball Coaches Named West Region Staff of the Year

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Texas at Tyler head softball coach Mike Reed and assistant coaches Christy Shipley-Gipson, Keith Bell and Coby Gipson were named the Co-West Region Coaching Staff of the Year for the 2009 season by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday .

The Patriot coaches will share the award with the coaching staff from Linfield, who finished second at the 2009 NCAA West Regional. More>>>

Cowan Earns Second Straight Academic All-America Honor
June 23, 2009

TOWSON, Md. – Graduate student R.J. Cowan of The University of Texas at Tyler became the first Patriot in school history to earn consecutive Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America and ESPN The Magazine when the organization announced its annual cross country and track & field honors on Friday.

Cowan was named to the third team for his performances in both cross country and track & field during the 2009 season. More>>>

Phillips Named Men's Tennis All-American
June 19, 2009

The University of Texas at Tyler’s Dustin Phillips was named an All-American by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced this week.

The senior, a native of Houston, finished this season with a 25-5 record in singles and a 23-6 record in doubles play. In his career at UT Tyler, Phillips was 45-10 in singles and 41-11 in doubles. More>>>

Baseball’s Holland Drafted by San Diego Padres
June 11, 2009

SEACAUCUS, N.J. – Senior pitcher Brett Holland of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was selected in the 49th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday by the San Diego Padres.

Holland’s selection marks the third-straight year that a UT Tyler player has been taken in the MLB draft. Brett Amyx and Nate Jennings were drafted by Kansas City and Toronto, respectively, in 2007, while Tim Matthews and Holland were chosen by Colorado and Oakland, respectively, in 2008. More>>>
