PLEASANT, Mich. – Pitchers Blake Booher and Brett Holland of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team were named All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Friday. This is the second All-America honor of 2008 for each pitcher, as both received the honor from D3 baseball.com last week. Four Patriots Garner Academic All-America Honors BRISTOL, Conn. – Senior Kristen Akin-Henton (Longview, Texas), senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.), junior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) and junior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) all received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division District 6 softball and baseball honors on Thursday. Baseball Downs MC to Advance ABILENE, Texas – Facing elimination, The University of Texas at Tyler rebounded from a Friday loss to eliminate Mississippi College in a 6-3 win at Walt Driggers Field Saturday. UT Tyler and MC both lost their respective opening games in the American Southwest Conference Championship Round Friday but the Patriots avoided elimination and will play the loser of the winner’s bracket game between Concordia-Texas and McMurry at 7 p.m. Saturday. Brett Holland moved to 11-0 on the season and struck out nine in a complete game for the Patriots while Joseph Towns drove in three runs to help lead UT Tyler. Andrew Damewood helped the Patriots to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when he hit a 2-run homer off MC starter Nathan Stewart. More>>>
Baseball Falls to Concordia in ASC Tourn. Opener ABILENE, Texas -- Concordia-Texas stunned No. 6-ranked Texas-Tyler in the opening game of the American Southwest Conference Championship Round Friday at Walt Driggers Field with an 8-7 victory. Brian Wernecke homered twice including a clutch 2-run shot in the top of the ninth inning that later proved to be the game-winner.

Baseball Fights Back to Take Series From Ozarks The UT Tyler Patriots stormed back from a Thursday night loss and started a new winning streak at Irwin Field with a pair of hard-fought victories over Ozarks on Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference East Division action. The fourth-ranked Patriots become the first team in Division III to reach the 20-win mark this season and are now 21-4 on the year and 5-1 in the ASC. No. 17 Ozarks falls to 19-5 and 6-3 in the East. #4 Patriots Drop Heartbreaker to #17 Ozarks The 4th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team lost just its fourth game of the season on Thursday evening at Irwin Field to No. 17 Ozarks, 6-4. Baseball Moves Up One Spot to #4 STERLING, Va., -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team moved to No. 4 in the latest D3baseball.com/National College Baseball Writers Association poll released on Tuesday morning. This week marks the fourth the consecutive week that the Patriots (19-3) have risen in the poll, after beginning the season at No. 16. This edition of the poll also marks the third time in as many weeks that UT Tyler received one of 25 first place votes. |
