Baseball’s Holland Drafted by San Diego Padres SEACAUCUS, N.J. – Senior pitcher Brett Holland of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was selected in the 49th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday by the San Diego Padres. Holland’s selection marks the third-straight year that a UT Tyler player has been taken in the MLB draft. Brett Amyx and Nate Jennings were drafted by Kansas City and Toronto, respectively, in 2007, while Tim Matthews and Holland were chosen by Colorado and Oakland, respectively, in 2008. More>>>

Baseball’s Holland Named Academic All-American NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior pitcher Brett Holland of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was announced as a second-team Academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday. Holland was just one of seven pitchers nationwide to be selected to one of the three College Division Academic All-America teams. Baseball Works Late to Win First ASC Title CLINTON, Miss. – After a five hour rain delay, two games and a thrilling ninth inning comeback, The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team claimed the first American Southwest Conference Championship in program history just after midnight on Monday morning at Mississippi College’s Frierson Field in Clinton. With a scheduled 1 p.m. start, game one of the ASC Title game was pushed back to 6 p.m. due to inclement weather in Clinton. Once the game finally began, the Patriots turned in a dominating 16-2 performance over Mississippi College to force a winner-takes-all game two. Baseball Splits with MC, Clinches Share of 4th ASC East Title The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team clinched at least a share of the 2009 American Southwest Conference East Division championship on a windy Sunday afternoon as the Patriots split a doubleheader with Mississippi College at Irwin Field.
