Four Patriots Garner Academic All-America Honors
May 8, 2008

BRISTOL, Conn. – Senior Kristen Akin-Henton (Longview, Texas), senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.), junior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) and junior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) all received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division District 6 softball and baseball honors on Thursday. Akin-Henton was named designated player for the First Team, while second baseman Peters, third baseman Towns and pitcher Holland were all named to the Second Team. More>>>

Baseball Eliminated By Concordia, 7-3
May 3, 2008

ABILENE, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was eliminated from the American Southwest Conference baseball championship tournament Saturday night, falling to Concordia-Texas, 7-3, at Walt Driggers Field.

The Patriots (36-9) also lost to Concordia on Friday but beat Mississippi College earlier Saturday to force the elimination game. More>>>

Baseball Downs MC to Advance
May 3, 2008

ABILENE, Texas – Facing elimination, The University of Texas at Tyler rebounded from a Friday loss to eliminate Mississippi College in a 6-3 win at Walt Driggers Field Saturday. UT Tyler and MC both lost their respective opening games in the American Southwest Conference Championship Round Friday but the Patriots avoided elimination and will play the loser of the winner’s bracket game between Concordia-Texas and McMurry at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Brett Holland moved to 11-0 on the season and struck out nine in a complete game for the Patriots while Joseph Towns drove in three runs to help lead UT Tyler. Andrew Damewood helped the Patriots to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when he hit a 2-run homer off MC starter Nathan Stewart. More>>>

Baseball Falls to Concordia in ASC Tourn. Opener
May 2, 2008

ABILENE, Texas -- Concordia-Texas stunned No. 6-ranked Texas-Tyler in the opening game of the American Southwest Conference Championship Round Friday at Walt Driggers Field with an 8-7 victory. Brian Wernecke homered twice including a clutch 2-run shot in the top of the ninth inning that later proved to be the game-winner.

The Patriots responded with back-to-back solo homers before Matt Aubry settled down for the Tornados to pick up his seventh save of the season. Jared Hood led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo homer to bring the score 8-6 in favor of Concordia, then Andrew Damewood followed with a towering shot of his own and put the ASC East Division title holders within one run. Baseball Moves Up One Spot to #4

STERLING, Va., -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team moved to No. 4 in the latest D3baseball.com/National College Baseball Writers Association poll released on Tuesday morning.

This week marks the fourth the consecutive week that the Patriots (19-3) have risen in the poll, after beginning the season at No. 16. This edition of the poll also marks the third time in as many weeks that UT Tyler received one of 25 first place votes.

MARSHALL -- The UT Tyler baseball team is off to a 3-0 start in the American Southwest Conference after sweeping its league-opening series from East Texas Baptist this weekend at Woods Field.

The Patriots opened the series with a 27-4 win on Friday night and then won both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader, 9-3 and 18-1. The wins move UT Tyler to 19-3 overall and 3-0 in the ASC. ETBU is 6-14 (0-4). More>>>
