Crusaders Use 8-Run Third Inning to Silence Patriots 12-7 TYLER – Senior outfielder Joseph Villegas was one of five Mary Hardin-Baylor players to record multiple hits, getting a leadoff double as part of an 8-run third inning that moved him into first all-time on the school's career hit list and helped propel the Crusaders to a 12-7 win over host UT Tyler on a chilly Saturday evening at Irwin Field. Mary Hardin Baylor (3-1) scored all 12 of its runs in the second and third innings, including pounding out 10 of their 14 hits, in rebounding from a walk-off loss to UT-Dallas in the previous game and finishing the 2nd Annual Clements Fluids Easton Classic with a 2-1 record. Willard Paces Patriots to First Win of 2010 over UT-Dallas TYLER – In his first career start for UT Tyler after transferring over from ETBU, junior left-hander Chase Willard lasted 7.1 innings, scattering four runs and seven hits, and turned the ball over to the bullpen the rest of the way in picking up his and the Patriots first win of the 2010 season over UT-Dallas, 9-5. The top three hitters in the UT Tyler lineup combined to go 8-for-13 with five of the eight runs driven in, led by senior outfielder Keenan Duke who went 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot with a run scored. Late Inning Rally Comes Up Short in Season-Opening Loss to UMHB TYLER – Playing its 2010 season-opener on Friday night at Irwin Field, host UT Tyler rallied from an 8-3 deficit with five runs over the final four innings, thanks in large part to a two-run homer from Cody Jones in the bottom of the 8th, but a strikeout from Seth Lynn with two runners on in the ninth sealed a 9-8 victory for visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor. Jones, a senior transfer from ETBU, went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a two-run home run to left in his UT Tyler debut and four other Patriots recorded multi-hit games, but it wasn't enough as the Crusaders took the opening game of the 2nd Annual Clements Fluids Easton Classic.
