Patriots Bounce Back to Win Weekend Series over Sul Ross
March 6, 2010

ALPINE – After getting blasted 15-2 in the series opener on Friday evening behind a 17-hit attack, UT Tyler responded with a Sunday twinbill sweep by scores of 14-5 and 11-10 to bounce back and win the weekend series over host Sul Ross State at Kokernot Field.

The Patriots won their sixth game in the last eight tries with the pair of victories to move to 9-6 overall, while the Lobos dropped to 8-6 on the early season. More>>>

TYLER – Seniors Cody Jones and Nathan Skeen each went 3-for-4 from the plate and fellow senior right-hander Matt Sparks tossed six solid innings on the hill, as UT Tyler rebounded from its worst loss in program history with an 8-3 win in the rubber match on Sunday to win the weekend series over Hardin-Simmons.

UT Tyler (7-5) won its fourth game in the last five overall despite being out-hit 12-10, taking advantage of five Cowboy errors. Hardin-Simmons also stranded a total of 12 runners on the afternoon in falling to 2-6 overall on the early season. More>>>

TYLER – In the opening two games of a three-game weekend series against Hardin-Simmons University at Irwin Field, UT Tyler used a complete-game performance from junior Chase Willard to win the opener 5-1, but fell in the nightcap 22-5 behind an offensive explosion from the Cowboys.

Seventh-year head coach James Vilade picked up his 200th career victory with the Patriots in the game one victory, only to see the milestone overshadowed in game two with the most runs surrendered in a single game in school history. More>>>

TYLER – The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team shook off a pair of losses to Texas Lutheran three days ago with a twinbill sweep over visiting Castleton State College tonight, winning a lengthened game one 19-4 and game two 8-3.

The 20th-ranked Patriots improved to 5-4 overall with the win, scoring a combined 27 runs off 25 hits and using a big night from junior college transfer Justin Juneau who finished 4-for-9 with a double, three-run home run and seven RBIs. More>>>

Five-Run Eighth Propels Bulldogs over Patriots, 8-5
February 20, 2010

TYLER – The top three hitters in the Texas Lutheran lineup combined to go 9-for-16 with five RBIs and three runs scored and the Bulldogs benefited from a five-run eighth inning to pull away with an 8-5 win Saturday afternoon to cap a two-game series sweep over No. 20 UT Tyler at Irwin Field.

UT Tyler held TLU scoreless in seven innings on the day, but gave up three runs in the fifth and five in the eighth that helped lift the visiting Bulldogs to victory. TLU moved to 7-1 on the year, while UT Tyler dropped to 3-4 on the early season. More>>>

TYLER – Fresh off American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, sophomore right-hander Brad Orosey didn't disappoint, tossing nine solid innings of five-hit ball with 10 strikeouts to pace visiting Texas Lutheran to a 5-1 win in extra innings in the opening game of a two-game series at Irwin Field.

Tied 1-1 heading into the 10th inning, with TLU scoring in the fourth and the Patriots scoring in the sixth off Cody Jones' solo shot, the Bulldogs rallied for four runs in their half off a pair of RBI singles and a two-RBI double from Chris Green in the left centerfield gap that provided the knockout shot. Chase Willard Tabbed ASC East Pitcher of the Week

RICHARDSON – After picking up his second win of the year in as many starts, junior transfer Chase Willard has been named the American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for games played February 8-14.

KERRVILLE – In their first road trip of the 2010 season, the UT Tyler baseball team capitalized off a combined five Schreiner errors and used timely pitching to pick up a Saturday twinbill sweep in a pair of scheduled 7-inning games by scores of 5-1 and 6-5 at Mountaineer Field.

TYLER – Senior outfielder Joseph Villegas was one of five Mary Hardin-Baylor players to record multiple hits, getting a leadoff double as part of an 8-run third inning that moved him into first all-time on the school's career hit list and helped propel the Crusaders to a 12-7 win over host UT Tyler on a chilly Saturday evening at Irwin Field.

Mary Hardin Baylor (3-1) scored all 12 of its runs in the second and third innings, including pounding out 10 of their 14 hits, in rebounding from a walk-off loss to UT-Dallas in the previous game and finishing the 2nd Annual Clements Fluids Easton Classic with a 2-1 record. More to come>>>

TYLER – In his first career start for UT Tyler after transferring over from ETBU, junior left-hander Chase Willard lasted 7.1 innings, scattering four runs and seven hits, and turned the ball over to the bullpen the rest of the way in picking up his and the Patriots first win of the 2010 season over UT-Dallas, 9-5.

The top three hitters in the UT Tyler lineup combined to go 8-for-13 with five of the eight runs driven in, led by senior outfielder Keenan Duke who went 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot with a run scored. More>>>

Late Inning Rally Comes Up Short in Season-Opening Loss to UMHB
February 5, 2010

TYLER – Playing its 2010 season-opener on Friday night at Irwin Field, host UT Tyler rallied from an 8-3 deficit with five runs over the final four innings, thanks in large part to a two-run homer from Cody Jones in the bottom of the 8th, but a strikeout from Seth Lynn with two runners on in the ninth sealed a 9-8 victory for visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor.

SEACAUCUS, N.J. – Senior pitcher Brett Holland of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was selected in the 49th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday by the San Diego Padres.

Holland’s selection marks the third-straight year that a UT Tyler player has been taken in the MLB draft. Brett Amyx and Nate Jennings were drafted by Kansas City and Toronto, respectively, in 2007, while Tim Matthews and Holland were chosen by Colorado and Oakland, respectively, in 2008. More>>>
