Baseball Wraps-up Three-Game Sweep of Hendrix, 15-2
February 10, 2008

Clay Baker went 4-for-6 and the UT Tyler Patriots earned a 15-2 victory over Hendrix to sweep the season-opening, three-game series from the Warriors at Irwin Field.

UT Tyler moves to 3-0 on the season while Hendrix falls to 0-7.

Joe Towns put UT Tyler on the board first, scoring on a passed ball in the bottom of the second.  The Patriots added two more runs in their half of the third when Chad Daleiden scored Jeremy Harding on a groundout to short.  Towns scored the second run of the inning, and his second of the game, when Chris Tucker reached on an error by Hendrix.

A miscommunication by Hendrix allowed Clay Baker to steal home in the bottom of the fourth to give UT Tyler a 4-0 lead.

Kendall Fox scored Tucker on a sacrifice fly and Baker singled up the middle scoring Jared Hood to put UT Tyler ahead 6-0.

Hendrix crossed the plate for the first time in their half of the sixth when Brad Grinstead grounded out to short scoring Eric Mathis.

Not to be outdone, UT Tyler exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBIs by Tucker, Hood (2), Fox and an Andrew Damewood double down the left field line that scored Baker, Fox, and Chris Goss.

Blake Booher went six innings and allowed just one earned run to pickup the win for UT Tyler.  Gabe Levin took the loss for Hendrix.

Fox and Damewood both had three RBIs for the game.

For the series, the UT Tyler offense scored 55 total runs while the defense limited Hendrix to just 11.

UT Tyler hosts Sul Ross State for a three-game series beginning 6 p.m. Friday at Irwin Field.
