Baseball Takes Two From Lobos
February 15, 2008

The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against Sul Ross St. on Friday evening at Irwin Field, 5-1 and 9-1.

In game one, a four run fifth inning proved to be the difference maker that lifted the Patriots to the win. The highlight of the inning was a solo home run to left field by senior Andrew Damewood (Plano, Texas). Damewood would finish the day by going 3-for-5 with one run and two RBI’s. On the mound, senior Ryan Campbell (Tomball, Texas) picked up his second win of the year allowing no earned run on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

In game two, UT Tyler continued its dominant offensive performance by out-hitting Sul Ross 11-to-2. The Patriots would score six runs in the bottom of the fourth, including another solo homer, this time by junior Jeremy Harding (Houston, Texas). Harding ended the day with two hits in three at bats, scoring two runs and one RBI. Although UT Tyler put on quite an offensive display, it would be the pitching of junior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) that would steal the show. Holland allowed no earned runs on two hits with no walks in a landmark performance. He would face 23 batters on the day in his complete game win, striking out 14, including the final nine batters of the game.

The Patriots are now 5-0 on the young season, while Sul Ross stands at 2-6.

UT Tyler will wrap up a six-game home stand on Saturday when they finish their three game series with Sul Ross at Irwin Field beginning at 9:30 a.m.
