Baseball Takes Down Schreiner

The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team stopped a late Schreiner rally to pick up the 6-3 win on Friday evening at Irwin Field.

The Patriots scored three runs in the first, one in the second and two in the fifth en route to the win. In what would be his only hit of the day, junior Jeremy Harding made his hit count by hitting a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the top of the seventh, Oliver Stogsdill of Schreiner hit a three rum homer off of Patriot pitcher Ryan Campbell in what would be the Mountaineers only offense of the game. Despite giving up the homerun, Campbell allowed just three hits and two earned runs in six and a thirds innings of work to pick up his third win of the year.

With the win UT Tyler improves to 9-1 on the year, while Schreiner falls to 1-9.

The two teams will return to Irwin Field tomorrow for a doubleheader to finish the three-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
