March 4, 2008
STERLING, Va. -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team received its first-ever Top 10 ranking on Monday in the D3Baseball.com/National College Baseball Writers Association Poll. The Patriots are currently ranked eighth in the poll, up five spots from last week’s No. 13 ranking.
In addition to the ranking, the Patriots received their first-ever first place vote in the poll. UT Tyler finished 43 points ahead of No. 9 Emory and just 22 points behind No. 8 Eastern Connecticut.
The Patriots were joined in the poll by ASC West Division rival Mary Hardin-Baylor, who checked in at No. 23. Three other American Southwest Conference schools, UT Dallas, Hardin-Simmons, and Texas Lutheran, all received votes in this week’s rankings.
UT Tyler began the season at the No. 16 spot.
UT Tyler will get its first chance to defend its No. 8 ranking on Wednesday, when it travels to Cedar Hill, Texas, to take on Northwood (Tex.) in a non-conference affair. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
