Baseball Sweeps DH With Austin College
March 8, 2008

The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team won both games of a doubleheader with Austin College on Saturday afternoon at Irwin Field. The Patriots took the first game 7-4 in extra innings and shutout the ‘Roos in game two by a score of 10-0.

In the first game, the Patriots scored two quick runs in the first, followed by a leadoff homerun from junior Chad Daleiden (Cave Creek, Ariz.) in the top of the second to put UT Tyler up 3-0 after two innings.

In the top of the third, Austin scored one run off a double from John Reisig. Later in the inning, the ‘Roos would add two more runs off of a single from Patrick Ray to tie the game at three.

The Patriots would retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth, when senior Chris Goss (Waco, Texas) scored off of a ground out by senior Andrew Damewood (Plano, Texas).

The score would remain at 4-3 until the top of the sixth, when Jordan Robison scored for Austin off of a single from Ray to tie the game at four.

After the seven scheduled innings, the game remained tied at 4-4, sending it into extra stanzas. The Patriots retired Austin in order in the top of the eighth, to give themselves a shot at the win in the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, with two men on, senior Chris Tucker blasted the ball over the left centerfield wall to win the game for the Patriots by a score of 7-4.

Junior Lex Wolfe (Lakewood, N.J.) picked up the relief win for Patriots, giving him his first win of the season.

In game two, no extra innings would be needed as the Patriots scored 10 runs off of eight hits in the shutout victory.

Junior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) hit the only homerun of the game, giving him two on the season.

Junior Blake Booher (Hurst, Texas) allowed just two hits in his seven-inning complete game shutout. The win moves Booher to 5-0 on the season, with an ERA of 0.90

With the wins, the eighth-ranked Patriots now stand at 14-1 on the season, while Austin College falls to 6-8 on the year.

Both teams will return to Irwin Field on Sunday to play the final game of the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
