March 10, 2008
ABILENE, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team lost for just the second time this season on Tuesday afternoon at McMurry, 11-8
In what turned out to be a slugfest, the two teams combined for 34 hits, 19 runs, seven doubles, two triples, and three homeruns.
After four innings of play, the Patriots led, 6-3. However, in the bottom of both the fifth and sixth innings, McMurry would homer off of Patriot pitcher Colby Munchrath (Dallas, Texas) to take a 9-6 lead that the Patriots would never regain.
Having a big day offensively for UT Tyler was junior Chad Daleiden (Cave Creek, Ariz.), who went 3-for-5 with a homerun, a double, and 3 RBIs.
With the loss, the Patriots fall to 15-2 on the year, while McMurry improves to 10-7.
The Patriots will travel three short mils across Abilene to play a doubleheader at Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday. In the first game, UT Tyler will take on sixteenth-ranked Marietta at a new start time of 2 p.m. The Patriots will face host Hardin-Simmons immediately after their game with Marietta, at approximately 5 p.m.
