Baseball Moves Up One Spot to #4
March 18, 2007

STERLING, Va., -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team moved to No. 4 in the latest D3baseball.com/National College Baseball Writers Association poll released on Tuesday morning.

This week marks the fourth the consecutive week that the Patriots (19-3) have risen in the poll, after beginning the season at No. 16. This edition of the poll also marks the third time in as many weeks that UT Tyler received one of 25 first place votes.

The Patriots finished just 31 points behind No. 3 Carthage (3-0), who also received a first place vote, and 97 points behind top-ranked Chapman (15-2) who garnered 20 of the 25 first place votes.

Joining UT Tyler in the poll this week, are fellow American Southwest Conference schools, Ozarks (18-3) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (16-4). UMHB, who was ranked twenty-third in last week’s poll, jumped three spots to No. 20. Jumping seven spots in the poll, from No. 24 to No. 17, was Ozarks, a team the Patriots will face this weekend.

Other ASC team receiving votes in the poll were Texas-Dallas (14-8), McMurry (14-8), and Hardin-Simmons (11-8).

Top 20 baseball comes to Irwin Field this weekend when the No. 4 Patriots take on No. 17 Ozarks in a three-game ASC East series. The series will kick off with a single game on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Friday that will begin at 1 p.m.
