Baseball Scores Big Wins Over ETBU

MARSHALL -- The UT Tyler baseball team is off to a 3-0 start in the American Southwest Conference after sweeping its league-opening series from East Texas Baptist this weekend at Woods Field.
The Patriots opened the series with a 27-4 win on Friday night and then won both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader, 9-3 and 18-1.
The wins move UT Tyler to 19-3 overall and 3-0 in the ASC. ETBU is 6-14 (0-4).
With ETBU holding a 3-2 lead going into the top of the fourth inning on Friday night, the Patriots scored six runs to take a 8-3 lead. UT Tyler added ten more runs in the seventh and eight runs in the top of the ninth. Jared Hood, Joe Towns, Andrew Damewood, and Chad Daleiden all homered for the Patriots and Ryan Campbell, who earned his fifth win of the season, struck out six for UT Tyler on the mound.
Clay Baker and Towns combined for ten of UT Tyler’s 27 hits and Baker scored five runs while batting in four. Towns hit for the cycle.
In Saturday’s first game, Jeremy Harding went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI’s as the Patriots scored a 9-3 win. Brett Holland struck out nine in the complete-game victory.
Blake Booher won his sixth game of the season and the Patriots closed out the series with an 18-1 offensive explosion in Saturday’s second game.
Clay Baker was 5-for-7 with three RBIs. Kendall Fox and Harding also plated three runs in the win.
For the series, UT Tyler outscored ETBU 54-8 on 60 hits while the pitching staff struck out 33 and allowed just four earned runs.
The Patriots host Ozarks in a Thursday-Friday series this week Irwin Field.
