May 3, 2008
ABILENE, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was eliminated from the American Southwest Conference baseball championship tournament Saturday night, falling to Concordia-Texas, 7-3, at Walt Driggers Field.
The Patriots (36-9) also lost to Concordia on Friday but beat Mississippi College earlier Saturday to force the elimination game.
UT Tyler's three runs came in the second inning courtesy of a three-run homer by Chad Daleiden that scored Jeremy Harding and Andrew Damewood. Daleiden was 3-for-4 on the night.
Concordia (30-15) responded with two runs in their half of the inning and added two more in both the bottom of the third and the fourth and a final run in the bottom of the seventh.
Ryan Campbell took the loss for the Patriots, falling to 7-3 on the year.
McMurry and Concordia will battle for the ASC championship and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on Sunday while the Patriots will await word on a possible at-large bid from the NCAA Division III Baseball Committee.
