Four Patriots Garner Academic All-America Honors
May 8, 2008

BRISTOL, Conn. – Senior Kristen Akin-Henton (Longview, Texas), senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.), junior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) and junior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) all received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division District 6 softball and baseball honors on Thursday. Akin-Henton was named designated player for the First Team, while second baseman Peters, third baseman Towns and pitcher Holland were all named to the Second Team.

The voting is governed by the College Sports Information Directors of America and is voted on by Sports Information Directors from around the nation. The College Division of District 6 includes all Division II, Division III and NAIA baseball and softball teams located in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Teams are chosen from nominated athletes who are academic sophomores or higher, have completed one full year at their institution, have at least a 3.2 GPA and play in at least 50% of their team’s games. Akin-Henton entered her final semester with a 3.91 GPA, while Peters boasted a 3.28 GPA. Joe Towns began the Spring 2008 semester with a 3.75 GPA, while Holland had a 3.49.

The honors mark the first time any Patriots have been named to a District Academic All-America Team. For earning first team honors Akin-Henton is now eligible for National All-America voting. Those teams will be announced on May 28.
