Baseball’s Towns Named ASC East Hitter of the Week

RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior Joe Towns of The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was named Co-East Division Hitter of the Week by the American Southwest Conference on Monday afternoon.
Towns went 10-for-17 with nine runs, seven RBIs, three homeruns and two doubles to help lead UT Tyler to a 4-0 week.
The Carrollton-native was one of three Patriots to hit two homeruns in Friday’s 27-10 win at Louisiana. Towns used those homeruns to propel his slugging percentage to an astonishing 1.235 on the week.
Towns ended the four game stretch by batting .588 and with an on-base percentage of .611.
UT Dallas’ Chris Bigunet also earned the weekly division honor by going 8-for18 with four homeruns and 10 RBIs.
On Friday, UT Tyler will open at three-game series with Mississippi College at Irwin Field to determine the 2009 ASC East Regular Season Champion. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m.
