Baseball Rolls Past Trinity for First Win
February 7, 2009

The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday night by storming past Trinity (Tex.), 10-3, at Irwin Field as part of the 2009 Easton Classic presented by Clements Fluids.

Junior Chris Tucker (Flower Mound, Texas) got things started early for the Patriots by blasting a solo homerun on the second pitch of the game. Tucker went onto finish the day by going 2-for-6 with one run and two RBIs.

In the second inning, UT Tyler once again led off with a homerun, this time by senior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas).

The Patriots would go onto to add one run in the third, three in the fourth, two in fifth, one in the seventh and one in the ninth.

Seniors Brock Lemire (Nederland, Texas) and Chad Daleiden (Cave Creek, Ariz.) led the way for UT Tyler, with each going 3-for-5 on the afternoon. Lemire scored three times, while Daleiden scored twice and had three RBIs.

Getting the win on the mound for the Patriots was senior Lex Wolfe (Lakewood, N.J.) who allowed no runs and just four hits, while striking out nine batters through seven innings of work.

The win moves the Patriots to 1-1 on the young season, while Trinity fell to 0-2. The Tigers lost their season opener earlier in the day, 9-5, to Texas-Dallas.

Despite starting the day with a win, UT Dallas also fell on Saturday. The Comets lost, 8-6, to Concordia (Tex.). Both UT Dallas and Concordia finished play in the Classic at 2-1.

UT Tyler and Trinity will return to Irwin Field to close out the Easton Classic on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
