Terri Deike
Terri Deike, a veteran of the East
Texas high school girl’s basketball ranks, brings her knowledge
from a 22-year career as a varsity girl's basketball coach to
UT Tyler. Eleven
of those years were spent at Class 4A Whitehouse High School. She
also has coached at Hallsville, Belton and Overton.
Deike led the 2004-2005 Patriots to an American Southwest Conference East Division Championship in only the program's second year. UT Tyler finished the season 16-8 overall and 16-6 in the ASC. For this, Deike was honored by her peers who selected her as the ASC East Division Coach of the Year.
In UT Tyler's first year of basketball, 2003-2004, Deike's team compiled an 8-17 mark overall while finishing 6-8 in the ASC.
"Coach Deike has tremendous experience. When one talks about
East Texas girl's basketball, Terri’s name has to come up.
She is highly regarded by her peers and former players," said
UT Tyler athletics director Dr. Howard Patterson at the announcement of Deike's hiring.
Among Deike's many career highlights, leading the Whitehouse
Lady Wildcats to the 1991 District 15-4A championship tops her
personal list.
Deike’s basketball philosophy is built on
three major facets - defense, rebounding and the fast break.
Coach Deike believes
that defense and rebounding are skills that can be mastered by
any player with the heart and desire to do so.
She earned a master's degree from UT Tyler and a bachelor's degree
from East Texas State University. Deike and her husband Dale have
two young children.
