Women's Basketball Crushes TLU, Men Edge Bulldogs

Five different Patriots scored in double figures as the UT Tyler Patriots exploded for a 102-74 victory over Texas Lutheran in American Southwest Conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon in Seguin.

UT Tyler's Sarah Stanley led all scorers with 23 points followed by Kasey Buggs and Katelynn Denney with 18 each. Buggs and Denney grabbed 11 and 12 rebounds respectively to pick up double-doubles on the afternoon.

Sasha Shannon and Sha Shead scored 16 each.

UT Tyler shot 69.7 percent in the first half as they jumped out to a 52-31 lead at the break. For the game, UT Tyler hit 60 percent from the field and pulled down 55 rebounds.

Men

The men (3-2, 3-1 ASC) built a seven-point lead at halftime and held on for an 58-55 victory. Forward Patrick Branche had 16 points and guard Joe Henderson added 10 to lead the Patriots. Henderson grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Though the men were out-rebounded on the game, 33-17, they allowed only 2-of-16 three pointers (12.5 percent).

The UT Tyler women return to action Monday as they host Central Arkansas in a 6 p.m. non-conference game while the men are off until Saturday when both teams host ASC foe UT Dallas at the Herrington Patriot Center.
