Tyler Patriots Community Service
Helping others is a big part of the athletics program at The University of Texas at Tyler. The
UT Tyler athletics department is committed to actively participating in the community through a variety of outreach events and services. Student-athletes from all 13 sports participate in a wide range of service and outreach programs in and around the Tyler area.
The student-athletes at UT Tyler are committed to enriching the Tyler and East Texas community through service with their time and efforts.
UT Tyler's athletics teams aren't just competing in their sports. They are mentoring children in Tyler ISD schools with sports clinics, working at summer camps, visiting the children's wings at local hospitals and reading at neighborhood elementary schools. These are just a few examples of the projects in which UT Tyler student-athletes have participated.
At UT Tyler, community service is as much a part of the players' education as their classes and sports involvement. Annually, UT Tyler student-athletes spend almost 1,000 hours in community service projects.
Goals of community service performed by UT Tyler student-athletes are multi-faceted and are aimed at:
- Helping promote the image and identity of the campus within the University and in the community;
- Facilitating the integration of the intercollegiate athletics department and student-athlete into the University community;
- Maintaining programs that serve as models for leadership, on which the University community and Tyler/East Texas may look with pride;
- Providing learning experiences for student-athletes, including leadership and team building;
- Providing role models and mentors for other students and young people in the community who might not otherwise aspire to attend a college or university.

Among the many projects UT Tyler student-athletes have been involved in are:
