The University of Texas at Tyler men's cross country team won the first annual UT Tyler Cross Country Invitational, taking six of the top ten individual times. On the women's side, McMurry finished in first place with 33 points followed by UT Tyler with 67. Sophomore R.J. Cowan (Whitehouse, TX/Whitehouse HS) set a school record for the Patriots' men in the 8K race with a first-place time of 26:28. He was closely followed by teammate freshman Ben Donnan (Paris, TX/Paris HS) who finished second with a 26:34 mark. Warren Brown (4th/27:15), Bojan Kajtaz (6th/27:21), Corey Kellam (9th/27:58) and Scott Whitehurst (10th/28:08) were the other top-ten finishers for the UT Tyler men. Overall, the Patriots finished with 22 points. McMurry came in second with 58 points followed by UT Dallas (83), University of Dallas (156) and East Texas Baptist (165). The UT Tyler men have now won two meets in a row, finishing in first place last week at the Southern Arkansas Invitational in Magnolia, Ark. Senior Charity Bolling (Stephenville, TX/Stephenville HS) was the top finisher for the UT Tyler women, finishing in sixth place with a time of 26:42 for the 6K race. Sophomore Lindsay Deal finished in ninth place overall at 28:36. Elena Yates (University of Dallas) was the top individual finisher for the women with a time of 25:19. She was followed by Staci Jackson of McMurry at 25:48. Following McMurry and UT Tyler in team finishes were the University of Dallas (78), East Texas Baptist (101) and UT Dallas (122).
