Cross Country Earns More Conference, Regional Honors

Tuesday brought more honors for the UT Tyler cross country teams, as the American Southwest Conference announced its Runners of the Week and the latest regional polls were released.
Senior Chauncey Deller (Gladewater, TX / Longview HS) took first place at the University of Dallas Meet with an 8K time of 28:02 to earn the ASC nod for male Runner of the Week. Deller, who became the third consecutive runner from UT Tyler to take the weekly ASC honor, also helped the Patriots to their fourth team victory of the season.
Freshman Sarah Hankla (Tyler, TX / Grace Community) place second overall at the 6K University of Dallas Meet with a time of 25:48. Hankla’s effort also led the UT Tyler women to their first team title of the season.
The latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll shows the UT Tyler men holding the top spot in the south/southeast region. The Oct. 9 poll has UT Tyler at No. 1, followed by Emory and Rhodes. Centre and Washington & Lee round out the region’s top five.
This weekend the Patriots will run against some of the toughest competition in the nation at the University of Arkansas meet in Fayetteville.
