Men Run Away with First, Women Take Third in CC Meet

Running at home proved to be the key for UT Tyler, as the men's team won first place and the women finished third at the UT Tyler Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
Competing on their home course, the UT Tyler men's team won four of the top ten individual spots and earned 37 team points to finish ahead of Northwood (51 points) and Dallas Baptist (59 points) in the overall standings.
The Patriots' top finisher, and second place overall, was Ben Donnan with a time of 26:40. Donnan was just nine seconds off Richard Kogo's (Western Texas) top time of 26:31.
UT Tyler's R.J. Cowan finished in fifth with a time of 27:06. Other top UT Tyler times were Corey Kellam at 27:20 (5th place), Warren Brown at: 27:56 (9th place) and Bojan Kajtaz at 28:59 (13th place).
In the early race, the UT Tyler women rebounded from a tough run last weekend at Baylor to finish an impressive third place in the team standings.
Led by Sarah Hankla's eight place time of 25:13, UT Tyler finished with 110 team points.
Dallas Baptist won the women's race with 19 points and runners in first, second, fourth, fifth, and seventh places. DBU was followed by Northwood with 55 points.
Lindsey Moore finished in 17th for UT Tyler with a time of 26:33, and teammate Heidi Stevens was 20th with a 27:31 time.
Lacey Morrison of Dallas Baptist was the top women's finisher with a 23:51 time for the 6K course.
Next up, UT Tyler runs at McMurry in Abilene on Sept. 22.
