The University of Texas at Tyler men’s cross country team won the Rhodes College Invitational Saturday in Memphis, Tenn., marking the Patriots third team win of the season.
In knocking-off host Rhodes, ranked No. 2. in the South/Southeast region, the Patriots hope to move up from their current spot at No. 5 when the new rankings come out.
UT Tyler had just 42 team points while Rhodes, which finished second, had 93.
The Patriots had three of the top five individual finishes in R.J Cowan (first), Ben Donnan (Second) and Corey Kellam (fifth).
Cowan’s winning time of 25:39 set at new UT Tyler record and helped the Patriots outrun the 12 other schools competing in the meet, including Division I squads Memphis and Xavier.
The UT Tyler women finished in 11th place in the tough field, paced by Sarah’s Hankla’s 43rd place time of 21:28.
The Patriots run at the University of Dallas on Saturday.
