Cross Country Teams Finish First in Irving

Both the men's and women's cross country teams for The University of Texas at Tyler finished in first place at the University of Dallas Cross Country Invitational held Saturday in Irving.
The UT Tyler women beat out six other schools, including American Southwest Conference foes Texas Lutheran and Texas-Dallas, for the win. Patriot Ginny Murphy was the top individual finisher, running a 26:41.97 for the 6K race. Teammate Jessica Waninger took second place honors with her time of 27:03.37.
Other Patriots finishing in the top ten were Sarah Hankla (6th/28:22.61) and Jessica Ball (9th/29:54.61).
On the men's side, Jeff Chandler's top individual time of 28:41.28 paced UT Tyler to a first place finish in the 8K. Including Chandler, the Patriots had four of the top five times and seven of the top ten.
Philbert Mutuyimana finished second at 28:57.78, Ross Renfroe took fourth with a 29:38.53 finish, and Mark Saroni came in at fifth place with a 30:02.93 mark.
Will Krogman (6th/30:20.60) and Kirk Hesse (10th/31:49.41) rounded out the Patriots in the top ten.
This was the third team win for the Patriots men this season, and the second for the women.
This coming weekend, the Patriots will hit the road for the Quaker Invitational hosted by Guilford in North Carolina.
