Cross Country Sweeps Weekly ASC Honors

Junior Ross Renfroe (Tyler, Texas) and freshman Jessica Waninger (Tyler, Texas) of The University of Texas at Tyler were named as the American Southwest Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week for the week of October 12, the league announced on Monday.

Renfroe finished third at the Guilford College Quaker Invitational on Saturday in a time of 27 minutes and 49 seconds to help lead the UT Tyler men to a third place team finish. His time in the 8K was the second best for the Patriots this year and the fourth best in the ASC.

On the women’s side, Waninger finished the Quaker Invitational in a time of 24:16.64, setting a new school record in the 6K in the process. Waninger finished the race in 12th place, individually, and helped lead her team to a third place finish, as well. Waninger’s time on Saturday was the second fastest 6K time in the ASC this season.

Both teams will take one week off before returning to action on Oct. 31 in Clinton, Miss., for the 2009 ASC Championships hosted by Mississippi College.
