Cross Country’s Chandler Nabs ASC Honor

RICHARDSON, Texas - Sophomore Jeff Chandler of The University of Texas at Tyler men’s cross country team was named Runner of the Week by the American Southwest Conference on Tuesday for the first week of the 2009 season.

Chandler helped lead the Patriots to a win at the UT Tyler Invitational by finishing second in the race with a time of 27 minutes and 36 seconds.

The Longview native was also the top Division III finisher in the meet, following only race winner Alfred Kite of NAIA-member Northwood (Tex.).

Both UT Tyler cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Monroe, La., to take part in the Warhawk Invitational hosted by Louisiana-Monroe.
