Cross Country Sweeps Division at Louisiana-Monroe

MONROE, La. – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s and women’s cross country teams each finished in first place of the small school division at the 2009 Warhawk Invitational on Saturday at The University of Louisiana at Monroe..

The small school division in each race consisted of UT Tyler, fellow American Southwest Conference member Mississippi College and Centenary (La.) College.

In the men’s 8K race, senior Philbert Mutuyimna (Gilbert, Ariz.) finished fourth overall and first in the small school division with a time of 29:08.5.

In the women’s 5K, freshman Jessica Waninger (Lindale, Texas) won the small school individual title with a time of 22:10.7, edging out Jennifer Copper of Mississippi by just 3.1 seconds. Waninger finished the race in seventh place in the overall standings.

Both UT Tyler teams will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Seguin, Texas to compete in the annual Texas Division III State Championships, hosted this year by Texas Lutheran.
