UT Tyler Men Win Golf Invitational, Women Finish Second

Men’s Results – Women’s Results

Coy Beck and Clay Holcomb shaved a combined 18 strokes off of their first round scores to lead the UT Tyler men’s golf program to the team title at the UT Tyler Invitational today at Hollytree Country Club in Tyler.

The Patriots men finished with a combined 594 (297-297) to edge out Texas Lutheran (595, 310-294) for the top spot. 

Beck shot a 71 on Tuesday, knocking seven strokes from his 78 round on Monday; Holcomb dropped an impressive 11 strokes from his first-round 83 to fire an even 72 in the final round.

Lindsey Frank, who paced UT Tyler through the first 18 holes, shot a 77 on Tuesday to end the tournament tied for fourth place with a 147.  Frank was the Patriots’ top individual.

Beck tied with teammate Travis Johnson at 149 for ninth place individual honors.  Jacob Walsh and David Thompson also made the top 20. Walsh fired a 150 (72-78) to tie for 13th place and Thompson shot 151 (73-78) for the 36 holes to tie for 16th.

The UT Tyler team combined for tournament-leading 35 birdies in the two rounds and the Patriots were three under on par five holes.

The UT Tyler women finished in second place in the Division III bracket, shooting a 740 (356-381) for the event. 

McMurry was the top DIII team with a two-day total of 718 (356-362).

Kimber Quinn ended in a tie for 11th place to pace UT Tyler, shooting a combined 172 (81-91).  Kasey Boykin and Amber Grounds joined Quinn in the top 20.

Boykin shot a 93 in the final round, and a 90 on Monday, to finish in 18th place with a 183.  Grounds show a 185 (90-95) to grab the 20th place spot.

Patrick Palmer of LeTourneau was the top men’s individual, shooting a two-under 142 (69-73) for the tournament.   Alicia Yoder of UT Dallas was the women’s top DIII player with a 165 (80-85) for the 36 holes.

The Patriots will remain in the Tyler area for their next tournament, the Tyler Junior College Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 21-23 at Oakhurst Country Club.
