Men's Golf Cruises to Win at UTD Classic

RICHARDSON, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf team won the UT Dallas Spring Classic on Tuesday, finishing with a three-round total of 915.

The tournament was played at Sherrill Park Golf Course.

Patriots’ sophomore Brandon Ellis was the top individual, firing rounds of 74, 77 and 72 to finish with a score of 223, edging Texas A&M International’s Andres Maymi by two strokes for the top spot.

Clay Holcomb was third overall with a 226 (76-75-75) and Patrick Norris tied for ninth with a three-round total of 233 (76-78-79).

Also for the Patriots, Bobby Ennis finished 21st with a 239 (78-78-83) and Travis Johnson was 28th after shooting 242 (82-82-88).

In the team standings, UT Tyler had plenty of room to spare as second place Mary Hardin-Baylor was 15 strokes behind the Patriots with a 930 total.

Host UT Dallas finished third with a 941.

The Patriots play at the LeTourneau Invitational April 14-15.
