Women's Golf in Second After Day 1 at Longview

LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler women’s golf team is in second place after the first round of the LeTourneau Spring Classic played Monday at Pinecrest Country Club.

The Patriots shot a total of 361 in the first round to trail leader UMHB by nine strokes.  McMurry is in third place, trailing UT Tyler by four strokes at 365.

UMHB’s edge over the Patriots came in par 3-scoring where the Lady Cru is plus 17 to UT Tyler’s plus 30.  UMHB also led the Patriots by seven strokes in par-4 scoring but the UT Tyler held a five-stroke edge on par 5’s.

Samantha Humphrey fired a 13-over-par 85 on Monday to lead the Patriots through the first round.  She had eight pars and was just plus four in par-4 scoring.  Humphrey is tied for third place with UMHB’s Taylour Shaw.

Amber Grounds, who had seven Pars on the day, is tied for ninth overall with an 88.

UT Tyler’s Courtney Kruppa and Katie Harris are tied at 23rd after shooting a 94 for the first round and Jordan Woodruff is tied for 28th.

UT Dallas’ Alicia Yoder, playing as a medalist, is the individual leader after the fist round with an 81.

The tournament concludes Tuesday and is the Patriots’ final tune-up before the American Southwest Conference Championship.
