Women’s Golf In Second at ASC Championships

ANNA, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler women’s golf team finished in second place after the first round of the 2008 American Southwest Conference Golf Championships at the Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna on Monday. The Patriots are just five strokes behind McMurry and are 14 strokes ahead of third place Mary-Hardin-Baylor.
Freshman Samantha Humphrey (Flower Mound, Texas) fired off a 75 (+3) to lead the Patriots and finish the day in first place atop of the individual standings.
Freshman Jordan Woodruff (Gladewater, Texas) was next in line for UT Tyler with an 85 in eighth place, while sophomore Amber Grounds (Whitesboro, Texas) was just one stroke behind Woodruff with an 86.
Finishing out the cards for UT Tyler were sophomore Courtney Kruppa (New Braunfels, Texas) and freshman Katie Harris (Salado, Texas) who shot a 92 and 94, respectively.
The Patriots will return to Hurricane Creek on Tuesday for the final round of the Tournament.
The winning team will be declared the 2008 ASC Women’s Golf Champions and receive an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf National Championship. The National Tournament will take place on May 13-16 at the Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa. The event is hosted by Wartburg College.
