Men's Golf Wins UMHB Invitational

TEMPLE, Texas -- The UT Tyler men’s golf team staged a come-from-behind victory today to win the Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational at Wildflower Country Club.

After posting a third-place 312 for Monday’s first round, the Patriots shot a combined 313 on Tuesday to finish with a 625. 

Texas Lutheran led the first round with a 305 but added 18 strokes on Tuesday (323) to finish in second place, shooting 628 overall.

Brian Jennings and Matt Stephens led the Patriots for third place overall, both shooting totals of 152 (78-74 for Jennings and 73-79 for Stephens).

Jacob Walsh placed sixth with a 154 (75-79).  Coy Beck was 35th overall (86-81-167) and Clay Holcomb placed 55th (87-89-176).

Host UMHB’s Casey Wharton was the individual winner, shooting a two-day total of 150 (73-77).

The Patriots, currently ranked fifth in the nation according to Golf Stat, will look to move up when they travel to Pine Mountain, Ga., next week for the Calloway Invitational hosted by No. 3 Huntingdon.
