Men’s Golf In Second After Round Two

LOMPOC, Calif., -- The fifth-ranked University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf team is in second place after the second of three rounds in the 2008 California Lutheran Kingsmen Invitational at the La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc, Calif.
The Patriots, who were in first after Round 1, slipped to second on day two just eight strokes behind leaders, twentieth-ranked University of the Redlands. UT Tyler led the Bulldogs by one stroke, 309 to 310, after the first round of play. However in the second round, the Patriots struggled, shooting a 316 on the day, allowing Redlands to surge ahead with a round score of 307.
After two rounds of play, Redlands leads the 13-team field with a total of 617, followed by UT Tyler with 625. Just behind the Patriots is a tie for third place between LaVerne and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who each have a two-day total of 628.
In individual play, UT Tyler freshman (Lewisville, Texas) is in fifth place with a total of 152, just five stokes behind the two-way tie for first place. Junior Brian Jennings (Bullard, Texas) followed Walsh with a 157, while junior Dustin Isabell (Athens. Texas) and freshman Patrick Norris (Spring, Texas) were just one stroke behind Jennings with a 158. Freshman Matt Stephens is currently fifth for the Patriots with a score of 169.
UT Tyler will wrap up play in Lompoc on Tuesday evening.
