Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth in CLU Invite

LOMPOC, Calif., -- The 5th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf team finished fourth out of thirteen teams in the 2008 California Lutheran Kingsmen Invitational held at the La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc, Calif.

The Patriots finished the tournament with a score of 943, just four strokes behind third-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and 19 strokes behind winners, 19th-ranked University of the Redlands. The Patriots led the field after the first round and trailed first-place Redlands by just nine strokes after the second day. However in the third round, the Patriots shot a 318, a team high for the tournament. The Patriot’s third-round score tied them for eighth on the day and forced them to the fourth place finish.

In individual play, UT Tyler freshman Jacob Walsh (Lewisville, Texas) led the Patriots with a score of 232 in 9th place. Junior Brian Jennings (Bullard, Texas) finished just two strokes behind Walsh in 12th place. Junior Dustin Isabell (Athens. Texas) finished with a three-round total of 238 in 19th place, while freshman Patrick Norris (Spring, Texas) shot a 243 to finish in 29th place. Freshman Matt Stephens rounded out the scoring for the Patriots with a score of 250.

UT Tyler will now take 12 days off before making the short trip to Richardson to compete in the 2008 University of Texas at Dallas Men’s Spring Golf Classic. The two-day tournament will run March 31 through April 1 and take place at Sherrill Park Golf Club No. 1.
