Women’s Golf Faces Tough Field at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The University of Texas at Tyler women’s golf team finished 22nd out of 26 teams at the 2008 Jekyll Women’s Collegiate Invitation at Jekyll Island, Ga., on Sunday afternoon.
The tournament was a virtual Who’s Who of women’s golf, with three Golfstat Top 15 NAIA schools participating and 13 Golfstat Top 30 Division III schools participating. Seven of the 13 Top 30 DIII schools were ranked in the Top 10 of the latest Golfstat poll.
Freshman Samantha Humphrey (Flower Mound, Texas) was the top finisher for the Patriots in the tournament. Humphrey finished tied for 68th place with a three day total of 266 (+50). Humphrey also had the low round of the tournament for UT Tyler, when she shot an 87 (+15) in the first round.
The Patriots will not be in action again until April 13, when they compete, along with the men’s team, in the 2008 LeTourneau Invitational. The tournament will run through April 15 and take place at the Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas.
