Men's Golf Leads Tough Field in Georgia

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf teams leads the Callaway Invitational by seven strokes after the first round played today at the Mountain View Golf Course at Callaway Gardens.
All five Patriots scored in the 70’s to give UT Tyler a first-round total of 301. Emory trails UT Tyler with 308, followed by Methodist in third with a 309. Darton (311) and LaGrange (313) round out the top five in the 16-team field.
The tournament features five of the top ten ranked teams in NCAA Division III, including No. 1 Oglethorpe, No. 2 Methodist, No. 3 Huntingdon, No. 4 UT Tyler, and No. 8 Rhodes.
Individually, Brian Jennings fired a 74 to lead the Patriots and sit in a tie for fourth place. Matt Jennings and Jacob Walsh are tied for sixth place, both shooting 75 in the first round. Dustin Isabell shot a 77 to put him in a tie for 16th and Coy Beck’s first-round 78 puts him in a tie for 22nd place.
Emory’s John Ross, Methodist’s Matt Bova, and Texas Lutheran’s A.J. Vesey are all tied for the lead in the individual standings after shooting 73 on Monday.
The tournament concludes Tuesday.
