Golf Teams in Lead at ASC Championships

ANNA, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s and women’s golf teams each lead their respective American Southwest Conference Championship tournaments after one day of play on Monday at the Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna, Texas.
The men finished the first round with a 304 team score and sat in two-way tie for second place with Mary Hardin-Baylor. Both teams trailed McMurry by two strokes after round one.
However, in round two the Patriots fired off a 296 to finish the day with an even 600, clinging to first place by just one stroke over UMHB.
Senior Brian Jennings (Bullard, Texas) led the tournament after the first round, but finished the day in a tie for second. Jennings shot a 73 in round one and a 75 in round two.
Junior Brandon Ellis (Village Mills, Texas) shot the low round on the day in round two by firing off a 69.
In the women’s tournament, the Patriots ended the day with a two stroke lead over Schreiner and finished with a team score of 349.
Sophomore Lisha Nigh (Mesquite, Texas) was UT Tyler’s low score on the day, as she finished in sixth place with an 86.
On Tuesday, both UT Tyler teams will return to Hurricane Creek to play their final round. The winner of each tournament will receive an automatic bid to their respective NCAA Division III National Golf Championship.
