Men’s Golf in Lead at Louisiana Fall Tournament

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf team finished the first day of the 2009 Louisiana College Fall Tournament in first place out of six teams at the Oak Wing Golf Course in Alexandria on Monday.
The Patriots shot a 290 and currently hold a two stroke lead over second place Texarkana CC.
Senior Brandon Ellis (Village Mills, Texas) and freshman Joey Rippel (Sugarland, Texas) finished Monday’s round in the top two spots individually by shooting a 69 and a 70, respectively.
Junior Tynan Day (Flower Mound, Texas) was third for UT Tyler with a 75, while senior Coy Beck (Canyon Lake, Texas) rounded out the Patriots’ scorecard with a 76.
The Patriots’ fifth player, sophomore Travis Johnson (El Campo, Texas), finished one stroke behind Beck with a 77.
Also playing for UT Tyler on was Monday was freshman Jean Paul Aube’ (Heath, Texas), who finished the round in a tie for fourth place by firing a 72 as a medalist.
The Patriots will attempt to hold on to their lead and win their first tournament of the 2009-2010 season when they return to Oak Wing on Tuesday.
