Men’s Golf Wins First Tournament at Louisiana

ALEXANDRIA, La. - The University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf team won its first tournament of the 2009-2010 season on Tuesday by finishing first at the Louisiana College Fall Tournament at the Oak Wing Golf Course in Alexandria.
The Patriots ended the two-day tournament with a 578 and finished four strokes ahead of second place Texarkana CC. The win marks the second straight year that UT Tyler has taken home the team title at the Louisiana College Fall Tournament.
Freshman Joey Rippel (Sugarland, Texas) shot a 72 on Tuesday to finish the tournament in second place individually with a 142. Senior Brandon Ellis (Village Mills, Texas) fired a 74 in the second round to finish one stroke behind Rippel in third place.
Junior Tynan Day (Flower Mound, Texas) carded a 69 on Tuesday to finish tied for fourth place with a 144, while sophomore Travis Johnson (El Campo, Texas) shot a 73 and finished in a tie for ninth place with a 150.
Both UT Tyler golf teams will close out their respective fall seasons on Monday when they travel to Kerrville, Texas to compete in the 2009 Schreiner University Fall Classic at the Scott Schreiner Golf Course.
