Men’s Golf in Fourth at Rhodes Invitational

TUNICA, Miss. – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s golf team finished the first day of the 2009 Rhodes College Invitational in fourth place amidst a very tough 20-team field on Sunday at the Tunica National Golf Course.

The Patriots shot a 292 on the day and finished just nine strokes behind tournament leaders Southwestern (Tex.).

Freshman Joey Rippel (Sugarland, Texas) fired a 69 on Sunday to lead his team and finish the first round of the tournament tied for the individual lead.

Senior Brandon Ellis (Village Mills, Texas) and junior Luke Loggins (Tyler, Texas) each followed Rippel with a 74, while junior Lindsey Frank (Spring, Texas) rounded out UT Tyler’s scorecard with a 75.

The Patriots will finish play in the Rhodes Invitational when they return to the Tunica National Golf Course on Monday.
