UT Tyler Eliminates La Verne in Rematch

TYLER, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler softball team eliminated three of the six participating teams on their way to last weekend’s ASC Championship game The Patriots reprised that roll this weekend, as they eliminated LaVerne on Saturday afternoon, 4-2, in the NCAA Division III Tyler Regional.

UT Tyler has now eliminated three of the seven teams in the Tyler Regional. The Patriots took out Redlands and Linfield on Friday and eliminated La Verne, the team that sent them to the Elimination Bracket, on Saturday. More>>>

Sajovich, Bizot Earn Regional Tennis Honors

SKILLMAN, N.J. – University of Texas at Tyler freshman Robert Sajovich (Austin, Texas) and head men’s tennis coach Chris Bizot received West Regional honors on Friday from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the sports governing body. Sajovich was named region Rookie of the Year, while Bizot received region Coach of the Year honors. More>>>

36 Patriots Earn Academic Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas – Thirty-six University of Texas at Tyler student-athletes and support staff received Academic All-Conference honors on Friday as announced by the American Southwest Conference.

The thirty-six honorees came from the eight UT Tyler spring sports.  The honorees also included student athletic trainers and sports information assistants. More>>>

TYLER, Texas – The UT Tyler softball team (42-8) eliminated the defending NCAA Division III National Champion Linfield College (38-6), 6-4 in nine innings, on Friday night in the final game of Day 2 in the Tyler Regional of the 2008 Division III Softball Championships.

The Patriots jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a single by designated player ‘Roo Richardson that scored left fielder Kristen Akin-Henton.More>

TYLER, Texas – UT Tyler (41-8) outfielder Julie Smith hit a two RBI double down the left field line in the sixth inning of Friday’s NCAA Softball regional match-up with Redlands (34-7) to give her team the lead late in the game. Smith’s RBIs represented the winning runs of the game, as the Patriots held on for the 5-3 win to eliminate Redlands from the seven team tournament. More>>>

TYLER, Texas – The 9th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler Patriots (40-7) lost an eight-inning heartbreaker on Thursday, falling to the University of La Verne (28-17) in Day 1 of the 2008 NCAA Division III Softball Tyler Regional, 3-1.

BRISTOL, Conn. – Senior Kristen Akin-Henton (Longview, Texas), senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.), junior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) and junior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) all received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division District 6 softball and baseball honors on Thursday. Akin-Henton was named designated player for the First Team, while second baseman Peters, third baseman Towns and pitcher Holland were all named to the Second Team. More>>>

Freshman Kelsey Harrington (Texarkana, Texas) and sophomores Carly Collins (Ennis, Texas) and Amanda Busby (Elysian Fields, Texas) also received All-Region honors with all three being named to the Third Team. CLAREMONT, Calif. – The 27th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler women’s tennis team bowed out of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, Calif.

Softball Wins Two, But Falls in ASC Finals

IRVING, Texas – Going into the final day of the ASC tournament, the University of Texas at Tyler softball team needed three wins to take home the American Southwest Conference Championship.

The Patriots used late inning heroics tin the first two games of the day, but came up just one run short in the final game against Louisiana College and fell to the Wildcats, 2-1, to finish second in the ASC in just their first year of postseason eligibility. More>>>

Baseball Eliminated By Concordia, 7-3

ABILENE, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team was eliminated from the American Southwest Conference baseball championship tournament Saturday night, falling to Concordia-Texas, 7-3, at Walt Driggers Field.

The Patriots (36-9) also lost to Concordia on Friday but beat Mississippi College earlier Saturday to force the elimination game. More>>>

Men's Tennis Advances to NCAA Regional Final

ST. PETER, Minn. – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Tennis Championship after beating Wisconsin-Whitewater, 5-1, on Saturday at the Gustavus Adolphus Swanson Tennis Center.

The 25th-ranked Patriots (18-5) will play the winner of Luther/Gustavus Adolphus in the regional final Sunday. More>>>
