Kareem Named Men's Basketball Player of the Week
February 16, 2009

RICHARDSON, Texas – Junior forward Hakeem Kareem (Houston, Texas) of The University of Texas at Tyler men’s basketball team was named East Division Player of the Week by the American Southwest Conference on Monday.

Kareem averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game, while shooting 60.6 percent from the floor, as the Patriots went 1-1 on the week.

On Saturday, Kareem scored a career-high 35 point in UT Tyler’s 71-55 come-from-behind win at Ozarks. Kareem scored 29 of his 35 points in the second half. His 35 points is also a single-game high in the ASC this season. More>>>

Red Hot 2nd Half Lifts Men’s Basketball Past Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s basketball team overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to rally and top Ozarks, 71-55, on Saturday in a pivotal American Southwest Conference match-up at the Mabee Gymnasium in Clarksville.

The Patriots (10-13, 10-8), who shot just 26 percent from the floor during the first half, shot a blistering 61 percent in the second. UT Tyler managed to limit Ozarks (10-13, 8-10) to just five field goals in the final half of play. More>>>
