Four Patriot Hoopsters Named to ASC All-Academic Team
March 15, 2010

RICHARDSON – The American Southwest Conference has recognized 86 student-athletes as Academic All-Conference award recipients in men’s and women’s basketball for the 2009-10 season, the league office announced on Monday.

To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have lettered in the 2009-10 season, be in at least the second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better. More>>>

Patriots Fall to Cru in ASC Tournament Quarterfinal, 82-61
February 26, 2010

BELTON – Playing on its home floor in the opening round of the 2010 American Southwest Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, No. 1 seeded Mary Hardin-Baylor built a 16-point halftime lead behind 49 percent shooting and owned a big advantage on the boards, as they cruised to an 82-61 win over the East's No. 4 seed UT Tyler.

With the loss, UT Tyler ends its season at 15-11 overall, while Mary Hardin-Baylor improved to 20-6 and advances to play Mississippi College in the semifinals tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. More>>>

Patriot Men Edge MC 80-74, Set School Record for Wins
February 20, 2010

TYLER – Senior Dexter McMarion scored a team-high 15 points, followed by 12 apiece from Travan Porchia and fellow senior Neal Welch, and UT Tyler knocked off visiting Mississippi College Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, 80-74, to earn just its second victory over the Choctaws in 14 tries.

With the win, UT Tyler set a new school record for wins in a season with its 15th, closing the regular season 6-3 down the stretch to finish at 15-10 overall and 11-9 in American Southwest Conference play. They'll be the East's No. 4 seed in next week's conference tournament and will face the West's No. 1 seed in Mary-Hardin Baylor on its home floor. More>>>

Patriots Clinch East's No. 4 Seed, Tie School Record
February 18, 2010

TYLER – For the third time in as many seasons under head coach Kenny Bizot, the UT Tyler men are headed to the postseason, clinching the East's No. 4 seed in the upcoming American Southwest Conference Tournament after a 79-57 victory over visiting Louisiana College Thursday night.

With their 14th win of the year, the Patriots tie a school record of wins in a season (2007-08) while also picking up 16 steals on the night to tie another record mark. They improved to 14-10 overall and 10-9 in ASC play, while Louisiana College fell to 9-15 and 7-12 in conference action. More>>>

Patriot Men Fall in Heartbreaker to UT Dallas, 63-62
February 15, 2010

TYLER – UT Dallas senior standout Scott Rodgers scored all 10 of his points in the second half and hit the game-winning free throw with 0.9 seconds left, as the visiting Comets escaped the Herrington Patriot Center Monday night with a 63-62 win.

In a back-and-forth affair that featured five ties and eight lead changes, it was sophomore Chris Barnes' game-tying 3-pointer for UTD with 21 seconds left that knotted the game at 62-62 and eventually willed the Comets' victory. More>>>

Patriots Connect on School-Record 17 3s, Rout Ozarks 94-66

TYLER – With the 3-point contest less than 2 hours away tonight in Dallas as part of the NBA's All-Star Weekend festivities, the host UT Tyler Patriots made their case for six different contestants after connecting on a school-record 17 3s in a 94-66 rout of Ozarks Saturday afternoon in the Herrington Patriot Center.

UT Tyler (13-9, 9-8 ASC) remained in fourth place in the race for the final playoff spot in the ASC East and capped off a season sweep of the Eagles in the lopsided win. Four Patriots scored in double figures, led by senior Dexter McMarion's career-high 23 points off 9-of-12 shooting from the floor. More>>>

Patriots Finish Off Season Sweep of LeTourneau in 71-66 Win
February 6, 2010

LONGVIEW – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s basketball team finished off a season sweep of LeTourneau University on Saturday night at Solheim Arena, using senior forward Hakeem Kareem’s third 20-point effort in the last four games and two clutch 3-pointers from Neal Welch down the stretch to earn a hard-fought, 71-66 victory.

In a game that featured 12 ties and 11 lead changes, it was Welch’s 3-pointer off a Travan Porchia assist with 3:57 left in regulation that broke a 58-58 tie and put the Patriots ahead for good. Welch had been 0-for-5 from beyond the arc up until that point, but connected on his final two attempts that allowed UT Tyler to pull out a huge road win. More>>>

MARSHALL – Playing his final home game for East Texas Baptist, senior forward James Morman scored a game-high 22 points and added 12 boards in a double-double effort as the host Tigers won their fifth consecutive game and took over sole possession of third place in the ASC East standings with a convincing, 67-52 win over UT Tyler on Thursday night at Ornelas Gym. Kareem Tabbed ASC East Division Player of the Week
February 1, 2010

DALLAS – After back-to-back double-doubles in a conference weekend split for UT Tyler, senior forward Hakeem Kareem has been named the American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Week for games played Monday, January 25 through Sunday, January 30.

Kareem earned the second ASC Player of the Week selection of his career and first this season for any Patriot, averaging 22 ppg, 11.5 rpg and 2.5 spg over two conference games, including an 89-73 win over LeTourneau. More>>>

TYLER – Senior forward Hakeem Kareem scored 15 of his season-high 24 points in the first half and all 11 players that saw the floor for UT Tyler found the scoring column, as the Patriots picked up a huge home win over LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon, 89-73, to keep pace in the ASC East playoff race.

The Patriots' 89 points marked a season-high, while improving to 8-0 on the year when scoring 70 or more points. UT Tyler moved to 11-8 overall and 7-7 in ASC play, while LeTourneau dropped to 9-9 and 8-6 in the league. More>>>

Late Rally Falls Short as Tigers Claw Patriots in Overtime, 72-67
January 28, 2010

TYLER – Down by double digits for a second consecutive game late in the second half, UT Tyler rallied from an 11-point deficit with just over 10 minutes to play to force overtime before visiting ETBU pulled away late in the extra frame to earn a 72-67 win at the Herrington Patriot Center Thursday night.

Despite a season-high 27 offensive rebounds and four scorers in double figures, UT Tyler couldn’t overcome 32 percent shooting while the visitors shot 50 percent for the game. Seniors Hakeem Kareem (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Josh Twine (11 points, 11 rebounds) each chipped in double-doubles for the host Patriots, as four scorers finished with double figures in a losing effort.
