Men’s Basketball Gets Big Win Against Concordia

The University of Texas at Tyler men’s basketball team snapped their two game losing streak on Monday by taking down Concordia (Tex.), 85-67, at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The first eight minutes of the game went back and forth until senior Jeff Cotton (Allen, Texas) hit a jumper with 11:31 remaining in the half that gave his team the lead for good. Cotton would go onto lead all scorers with 20 points. The Patriots outshot the Tornados by 21 percent in the second half and out rebounded them 53 to 34 for the game.

Senior Patrick Branche (Houston, Texas) followed closely behind Cotton with 18 points, but added a game-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Senior Brandon Weasby (Houston, Texas) made his return to the Patriot line-up by scoring 13 points, while junior Anthony Reese (Longview, Texas) rounded out the Patriots in double digits with 11. Senior Tino Maxwell (Killeen, Texas) led Concordia with 12 points.

With the win the Patriots improve to 3-5 overall and 2-2 American Southwest play, while Concordia falls to 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in conference action.

UT Tyler will get just five days of rest as they travel to Louisiana on Saturday, December 22 to take Division I Louisiana-Monroe. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
